POLYTECT has been conceived as an Integrated Project for SMEs, being a large-scale SME-driven research initiative aimed at creating and integrating new multifunctional textiles for application in the construction sector to contribute at the radical transformation of the textile sector and to make a substantial contribution to the long-term competitiveness of the two industrial sectors (technical textiles and construction) in Europe ensuring employment, economic growth and export income for an enlarged European Union. POLYTECT will follow an integrated and multidisciplinary approach which involves the close partnership between research, innovation, demonstration, training and appropriate management and mediation activities. A critical mass of strictly complementary activities is created by researchers and practitioners. All partners have been selected with respect to their experience and their innovation ambition towards new textile systems with high technological impact.
With respect to the performance of new multifunctional textile structures for geotecnical and masonry applications, the concieved objectives are:
• to increase the structural strength;
• to increase ductility;
• to monitor deformations;
• to monitor stresses;
• to monitor structural integrity;
• to monitor accelerations;
• to monitor water level variation;
• to monitor pore pressure;
• to detect presence of fluids and chemicals;
• to measure structural health.
