Directly after the 30 month meeting in Athens, Donato and Tom (DAPP), Gebhart (SLS), and Ettore (Extreme) briefed POLYTECT at the 4th Annual Public Textile ETP Conference on 1-2 April in Brussels sponsored by the European Apparel and Textile Association (EURATEX). The POLYTECT presentation was well received because we are one of the few non-apparel related projects. The presentation was also well organized because each of the four speakers contributed to the overall project picture consisting of intent, overview, and application to the construction sector (Donato), Structural Health Monitoring (Tom), machine adaptations (SLS), and SME production (Ettore). Also of interest, POLYTECT has begun collaboration with the EU project PROETEX (Protection emergency Textiles) which embeds sensors in the uniforms of fire-fighters. Although the end application is different than POLYTECT, many of the challenges and solutions (e.g. sensor miniaturization, data transmission, power requirements, etc) are the same. From EURATEX, POLYTECT has been selected as one of three representative projects to be summarized and published in a special edition of Textile Network, a German-based industry magazine that publishes in both English & German.
